Back like 'King' but empty Emotionally
Hello....How are...Welcome to my blog.
Just like any other day, he reports to work happy and full of life. He high fives his platoon members. They are sharing stories about their time in training. Kip joins them, he is the funniest and comes with all the rumours. Kip, "Shhh, there is rumour we are going for mission"
Immediately the stories changes to who is the toughest & how they will go about the mission & return as Heroes as US Marines always do. In a few minutes the commander summons them to break the news. His final words " We're going to a WAR in a weeks time. Everyone dismissed."
Comrade calls his wife who has 8 month old son & tells her he's coming home with some good news. He is excited and anxious, happy to be fulfilling his dream of going to combat. Anxious from what he has seen in movie (he loves them) he has seen how these places get messy sometimes.
When he gets home he hugs his wife passionately and kisses her with the little champ on their foreheads, he loves them so much. He breaks the news to her, her eyes are filled with tears and the only words she speaks "babe, promise to return to us and never forget I love you"
Departure day arrives & the platoon leaves for Somalia. They arrive safely & mission starts. Back home the wife never stops praying for the safety of her husband. Once in a while tells the little champ, " papa will come home with lots of money we build a nice house & buy a car"
10 months down the line the platoon has conquered many battles. Their bond is so strong they now look like a family. They are counting weeks to head back home, the excitement is written in everyone's face.
Hell breaks lose when their base is attacked. They've to fight for their lives in what seems like their final challenge. The enemy is well armed & has even more powerful weapons. The platoon is falling one by one some disfigured beyond recognition from the grenades raining on 'em
Before help arrives then platoon has got just a few members standing luckily Conrad is one of them. He can't believe what is In front of him, the "family" is no more. He even asks God why he has been left behind. He doesn't fear death a
Back home TV channels are reporting the BREAKING NEWS. Government says everything is in order & lost 5 gallant heroes & they'll take care of their funerals, but their families & pals nothing is in order. Conrad can't comprehend why the government is so naive & tell the whole story
Mission is cancelled & the remaining members flown home. When Conrad gets home, the wife's happy at least the husband has returned, she doesn't forget to thank God. But Conrad is cold, nothing seems to make sense to him anymore. To the wife this isn't the husband she was expecting
Two weeks later, the husband is killing himself with alcohol. Not once, he is even threatening the wife he will commit suicide. He becomes abusive and physical. This is a whole new world to the wife, things she never imagined she would ever experience in her life.
One day they are involved in a serious argument and he attacks her with a knife. She is now fed up and leaves for the village. The husband has become a beast battling with unknown nightmares and all this anger is directed to the wife.
This is a true story that a friend just experienced. We have young men who are being sent on these missions but once they return no one takes time to guide them on dealing with Posttraumatic stress disorder. It's high time something is done.
